Test Engineer

Job Summary:

  • Cree is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on engineer to design, develop, and execute custom integrated hardware/software solutions. You will work with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop new tools and processes to support development and manufacturing of LED-based lighting products in a rapidly expanding business. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, hands-on, problem solver with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range technical problems while, at the same time, managing one or more development projects
  • Works closely with internal and external customers/vendors. Internal customers include R&D, Equipment Engineering, Purchasing, Advanced Product Development and Operations/Manufacturing. Primary external interaction is with equipment manufacturers and material suppliers. Customers/vendors are distributed across multiple time zones (US and international).

Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct optical and electrical testing of semiconductor materials and related software design
  • Integrate and qualify new test systems into production
  • Support product transfers from development to production which may require 2nd shift working hours to resolve out-of-country manufacturing problems.
  • Develop robust software for controlling test equipment
  • Design and execute electrical, mechanical and optical experiments to improve measurement and process yields
  • Apply good engineering practices to improve wafer probing processes
  • Interacting with engineers, technicians, and scientists to develop, sustain and improve test automation and related software

Important Skills


  • BS in engineering
  • Visual Studio programming experience
  • Flexible work schedule
  • High energy, self-motivated attitude with strong communication skills and an ability to interface effectively with different backgrounds and at every level of the organization
  • Must have a “whatever it takes” attitude to get the job done
  • Travel: Up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer or electrical engineering
  • Visual Studio .NET framework experience
  • Knowledge of optical and electrical concepts
  • Python programming experience
  • GPIB, RS-232, TCP/IP, DAQ and other interface/communication experience
